Doncaster's Labour Mayor Ros Jones hits out at Keir Starmer over Winter Fuel Allowance cuts and National Insurance rises

May 2nd, 2025

Labour's Ros Jones won a fourth term as the elected mayor of Doncaster, winning by just under 700 votes.

The Mayor wasted no time at all in criticising Keir Starmer and Labour's decision to stop the winter fuel allowance for millions of pensioners. Ms Ros also said the cost of rising National Insurance was hurting small businesses.

Ms Ros said:

What I'm saying to Kier is this. He needs to listen and take action. I wrote as soon as the winter fuel allowance, was actually muted, and I said it was wrong, and therefore I stepped in immediately. I think, they need to look again because, actually, putting up the cost of National Insurance is hitting some of our smaller businesses.
