On 8th May, 2025, Keir Starmer proudly posted to X: "Last month, I promised workers at Jaguar Land Rover that I would protect their jobs. I kept that promise."
It has now been announced that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is to cut up to 500 management jobs in the UK, starting with a voluntary redundancy scheme.
Cuts are not expected to exceed 1.5% of its British workforce. The firm described the move as "normal business practice".
JLR has had a drop in sales in the three months to June caused partly by it pausing exports to the US because of tariffs (set by Donald Trump at 10%) and also due to the planned wind-down of older Jaguar models.
