Labour MP for Middlesbrough & Thornaby East, Andy McDonald, has joined fellow Labour MPs to tell the Labour Party it needs to wake up.

These results have to be a wake up call. Yes it's a protest against the two larger parties and it's disillusionment as well, but it's even more significant and Labour needs to hear the message loud and clear.
Too many people and too many sections of our society are saying they feel betrayed by Labour in government.
Of course we've done immensely important and good things in 10 months with ending strikes, getting waiting lists down, saving British Steel, supporting local councils and made major strides on delivering the new deal for working people, but we've got too many things badly wrong.
We have to be honest about the policy decisions we've made and be clear about who we are in government for. Unless we deliver improved material living conditions we will not recover the trust of the people to bring about the renewal that the country craves.
If we are not prepared to accept our errors and change tack and instead we simply double down on making 'tough decisions' that so negatively impact on the electorate, especially pensioners, the disabled and the marginalised, then we cannot expect the people to support us.
